It’s the countdown to the big fight between the fans of Ajith and Karthi, as their much-awaited films Billa 2 and Saguni are set to hit the screens on the same day -June 22. Producers of both films, Aascar Ravichandran and Gnanavel Raja, have locked in on the same date and are said to be firm with their decisions.
While the KarthiPranitha starrer Saguni, directed by Shankar Dayal, has received a clean `U’ certification that will eventually lead to tax exemption; Billa 2 was screened by the Censor Board only on June 14.
Meanwhile Gnanavel Raja has begun his promotions for Saguni and has officially announced that the movie will hit cinema halls on June 22.
Sources inform DC that Aascar Ravi has blocked all the major screens at multiplexes including Sathyam, D e v i , Udhayam and Abhirami in C h e n n a i for Billa 2. An insider from Aascar Films says that Ravichandran known for his shrewd marketing strategies is leaving no stone unturned, and Billa 2 will release in as many as 1,345 screens across the globe (350 screens in TN, 350 in Andhra, 100 in Kerala, 100 in Karnataka, 400 overseas and 45 in North India, thus making it the highest for Ajith’s films. There are speculations that Billa 2 may not receive a `U’ certification and that could be a deterrent in drawing in the family audi ences. However, Ravi is positive that a mass hero like Ajith and a good script will make the movie a hit, irrespective of its censor certification.
Gnanavel Raja, who is unperturbed by the competition, says, “I am releasing Saguni in approximately 850 screens worldwide. We have got a clean `U’ certificate and there is a positive buzz about the movie in trade circles. It is not the city theatres alone that determine a film’s success. I am confident that my promotion techniques and strategies will bring desired results.“
Remind him about the fact that trade has accepted Ajith as the undisputed `King of Openings’, and Raja says, “Even when Karthi’s Sirutthai was released along with yet another biggie V i j a y ‘ s Kaavalan and Dhanush’s Aadukalam, peo ple were sceptical about Sirutthai’s . Even though it about Sirutthai’s run. Even though it was in second place, Vijay’s film being first during the opening week end, from M o n d a y onwards Sirutthai picked up and turned out to be a huge hit. So, at the end of the day, it’s the film’s content that matters rather than star power.“
