For actors Sudhanshu Pandey and Vidyut Jamwal, working on Billa II has been an experience they will cherish for a long time to come. The film marks the Kollywood debut of both the actors from Mumbai!
Sudhanshu says, “For a debut experience, I felt extremely welcomed by the team. There was never a dull moment on the sets.”
He adds, “I was looking for a good break in south, and that’s when I met one of the producers, Sunir Kheterpal, who offered me this role. I flew down to Chennai to meet up with director Chakri Toleti and Suresh Balaje. When I stepped into their office, Suresh himself got up and fetched me a glass of water instead of ordering his staff.
Though it sounds trivial, it mattered a lot to me because it was with them that I was going to spend my time shooting.”
For Vidyut too, the experience has been anything but warm and enjoyable. Recounting the ‘chilling’ action scene that he shot for the film with Ajith while it was snowing heavily, he says, “I was wondering how Ajith and I’d be able to fight when the snow was falling heavily, covering the roads. I thought it was humanly impossible to shoot, but Ajith and Chakri were going about with their preparation. That’s how much dedicated they were!”
Quiz Sudhanshu if he had to prepare himself to fit into the character in Billa II, and he says, “I play a 40-plus, super rich guy, who owns everything he can desire, and can get everything he wants. Chakri told me that I need to put on weight, and grow thick beard and moustache.”
He adds, “In fact, I’ve dubbed for myself in the film. They hired a tutor for me in Mumbai, and I would sit with him and learn the Tamil phonetics and pronunciation everyday.”
In the days that he spent shooting with Ajith, Vidyut says he has become his huge fan. He says, “He can talk about everything under the sun. He has a good knowledge of food, fashion and health. He’s someone who’s comfortable with his body.”
And Sudhanshu adds that he shares such a good rapport with Ajith that the two often cracked jokes on the sets. “During most of the scenes, Bruna Abdullah either gets out of the swimming pool or is busy doing laps. This has kind of become a standing joke between us that if someone comes looking for Bruna, we’d say, ‘Check the pool!’ Though Ajith is one of the superstars in Tamil film industry, he’s very humble and helpful,” he signs off.
