Billa 2 Fans Disappointed – Deccan Chronicle
There was palpable hype in the film-buffs’ circle about exclusive invites to the Billa-2 trailer launch.
But, the release of the trailer, which was slated for Monday evening, was hurriedly cancelled late on Sunday night.
Although officials from the production house or those concerned with the project refused to comment, close family sources and industry sources with insider information, said, “It’s cancelled because the makers wanted to give the event exclusively to a certain channel.
However, because of the person backing the project, it was turned down by the channel and there was no option but to postpone it.”
The source also added, “It is unfortunate that the real backer of the project, who is not listed in any legal papers, has in the past weathered some storms due to his political affiliations.
His association is costing the film’s crew and cast a few tense moments.” However, insiders also affirm that Aascar Ravichandran, who is releasing Billa 2, is a thorough professional — he will ensure a proper release and not disappoint fans.
Ajith’s fans, who had seen the newspaper adverts across the State, thronged Chennai’s Anna Centenary Library, only to leave feeling let down, as no cancellation message had been put out.
It is expected that the Billa 2 trailer and teaser video song will be released on YouTube by Monday evening as planned.
Yet another reason cited for the cancellation was that last Sunday, much against government rules, the building that is allowed to host educational seminars and conferences, or events that promote arts, literature and culture, was rented out for a wedding reception.
A certain advocate has initiated a public interest litigation to stay the government on letting the hall for private functions.
Accordingly, on Monday, the Madras High Court banned use of the Anna Centenary Library auditorium for wedding or such other purposes.
