Despite the absence of the usual fanfare that accompanies the various launches which take place before a movie finally hits the screen, Billa 2 has retained the center stage in the midst of the various releases and happenings in Tamil cinema. Ever since the launch of Billa 2’s theatrical trailer last evening, the social network hasn’t stopped buzzing be it twitter, facebook or orkut. Youtube is still reeling from the speed at which the hits have been pouring in for one of the most highly anticipated trailers of 2012. In a matter of 24 hours the trailer has received a record breaking 3,25,000 views & 5,250+ likes.
“Aasai illai annachi . . . pasi.” With this one line the makers of Billa 2 reveal to us the driving force behind the legendary don of South Indian cinema “Billa, David Billa.” If 2007’s Billa was all about style, Billa 2 is all about raw, hard hitting action, packaged in a slick and stylish manner. Any notions one may have had about David Billa’s journey being all about Armani suits and perfectly coiffed hair is done away with quickly in Billa 2. The action is real and contains scenes which make your heart skip a beat.
The goal behind a trailer is to leave the viewer wanting more and Billa 2’s trailer accomplishes just that. The raw magnetism of the protagonist (Thala Ajith) leaves you longing for more. Interestingly, in an industry in which the audience is used to watching their screen gods shout and slap their thighs while attempting to deliver their “punch” dialogues, Billa 2 takes another route. Ajith Kumar’s Billa is all about being silently menacing. Without the use of high decibel sound and thigh slapping he manages to deliver a knockout with every dialogue he utters. The effect of the two dialogues need only be judged by the speed at which they have become the ringtone of many a cinema fan, the favorite being, “Ennoda nanban ah irukkuradhuku thakuthi veandam aana ethiri ah irukkiradhukku thakuthi veanum”.
