Billa 2 may have opened to mixed reviews but action junkies couldn’t have missed Vidyut Jamwal’s act as the leader of the Russian arms mafia.
After his debut in the John Abraham-starrer Force, Vidyut has once again performed some jaw-dropping stunts in Billa 2.
The man, who is also the villain in Vijay’s Thuppaki, has no qualms being typecast just as long as he is known as the best action-man in the industry.
He says, “I am a sucker for action and I will go to any extent to deliver my best. When people talk about action sequences, they should talk about me… that’s my aim.”
It was his passion for action that landed him a role in the Billa prequel. “The director Chakri Toleti told me that it’s a high-action movie and he planned to take action in cinema to completely different level. I just couldn’t say no,” adds Vidyut.
Vidyut is trained in martial arts and is also a national-level gymnast. “I started learning a martial art form called kalari when I was three. I’ve also been doing gymnastics for years. In Mumbai, I have a team of boys and we practice martial arts every day. These guys all have day-time jobs; some of them are chai wallahs, paan shop employees and so on. They earn their living in the mornings and dedicate their evenings to their passion, which is martial arts.”
Not many know that Vidyut and his team actually conceptualised his introductory action scene in the movie. “My team and I conceptualised and choreographed the entire sequence and later taught the Georgian guys, who are seen on the screen, the final choreography,” he points out.
Working with big stars like Ajith right in the beginning of his career has taught him a lot about the industry.
He says, “I was lucky to have spent those 22 days working with Ajith at such close proximity. He is a grounded and humble human being. When I first met him, I was just one-film old but he helped me understand the industry and showed me how to go about it. Even today, when I have trouble making a professional decision, I call him.”
Vidyut is now looking forward to his next release Thupakki with Vijay, whom he calls ‘the coolest guy I’ve ever known’.
He will also be seen in the lead role of a B-town flick, which will, of course, be action-packed and have equal amounts of gaana bajana.
